The ProteusThemes Support plugin creates a diagnostic site report: a snapshot of your WordPress, server, theme, and plugin setup, plus recent PHP error messages. When you send it with a support request, our team can troubleshoot your site without asking for your WordPress login.
Install the plugin
ProteusThemes Support comes with your ProteusThemes theme. If it isn’t active yet, go to Appearance > Install Plugins, then install and activate ProteusThemes Support.
Plugin updates appear in the usual WordPress Plugins and Dashboard > Updates screens, like any other plugin. The plugin requires WordPress 5.8 or later and PHP 7.4 or later.
Register your theme first
To send a report, your theme must be registered on this site with its purchase code (ThemeForest) or license key (ProteusThemes shop). In current theme versions, you register under Appearance > Theme Registration. Registering also activates this site’s address on your license, which confirms the report comes from your site.
Not sure where to find your code? See Where can I find the theme purchase code? or Where can I find my theme license key?
Send a site report
- Log in to WordPress as an administrator and go to Tools > ProteusThemes Support. You can also click Settings under ProteusThemes Support on the Plugins screen.
- Review the report shown under Site report.
- Click Send site report. You’ll see Site report sent., and the page shows when the last report was sent.
The button sends exactly the report you reviewed. If the report changed in the meantime, for example because you opened the page in another tab, you’ll be asked to review the current report and send it again.
If sending fails, click Copy site report and paste it into the description of your support ticket instead.
Add the site report to a support ticket
- Log in to your ProteusThemes Dashboard, open the Support tab, and click Open a new ticket. See How to open a new support request if you need help logging in.
- Select the theme registered on your site.
- In Related URL, enter the address of the site you sent the report from. If WordPress is in a subfolder, include the subfolder.
- Keep Include an available site report with this ticket checked. The form checks for a report automatically. If you send a new report from WordPress while the form is open, click Recheck.
- Fill in the rest of the ticket and submit it.
The form shows one of these results:
- Report collected (date): a recent report is available and will be attached to your ticket. You don’t need to add WordPress admin access, though you can still add other details.
- The report collected (date) is out of date: the last report is too old to rely on. Send a new report from WordPress and click Recheck, or submit your ticket without it.
- No report is available: there’s no report for this theme and address. Check that the Related URL matches your site’s address, send a report from WordPress, and click Recheck. You can also submit your ticket without one.
- Site reports are unavailable right now: the form couldn’t check for a report. You can still submit your ticket.
A report is optional. Uncheck the box to submit your ticket without one. After you submit, the confirmation message tells you whether your ticket includes a recent site report.
Privacy questions
Is anything sent automatically?
No. The plugin sends a report only when an administrator clicks Send site report. Installing, activating, or updating the plugin sends nothing, and the plugin’s update checks don’t include your report or purchase code.
Does the plugin give you access to my site?
No. It doesn’t create a user account or a login, and it doesn’t enable any remote access. It only shares the information in the report.
What does the site report include?
- Your site and home URLs, your WordPress, PHP, and database versions, and pending WordPress, theme, and plugin updates
- Server software and PHP settings, such as the memory limit, execution time, upload size, extensions, and OPcache
- WordPress settings, such as permalinks, language, multisite, debug mode, WP-Cron, and object caching, plus whether WordPress can write theme, plugin, and upload files and whether it blocks requests to proteusthemes.com
- Your active theme and parent theme, your installed plugins (active and inactive), must-use plugins, and drop-ins, with their versions
- Your theme registration status, such as whether the theme is registered, the license type, when support expires, and the result of the last theme update check. The report never includes your purchase code. It’s sent separately to confirm the report comes from your site.
- Which ProteusThemes demo content you imported, and the selected skin in themes that have skins
- Recent PHP error messages from this site’s PHP error log, and from the WordPress debug log when debugging is on
You can see the full report on the Tools > ProteusThemes Support page before you send it.
Can error messages contain personal information?
Yes. Error messages are sent exactly as your theme, plugins, and server logged them, so they can contain page URLs, email addresses, IDs, and other details. The report includes only errors from this WordPress installation’s own files. Review the report before you send it. If you’d rather not share it, you can submit your ticket without a report.
What about multisite networks?
On a multisite network, error messages are included only when a super admin sends the report. Reports sent by a site administrator leave them out.
Who sees the report?
ProteusThemes keeps the report with your support account. Our support staff, and the AI assistant that helps answer support requests, use it to troubleshoot your issue.
If Send site report doesn’t work
- No purchase code found: register your theme on this site (see above), reload the Tools page, and send again. If your theme version has no registration screen, the plugin hides the Send site report button. Copy the report into your ticket instead.
- The purchase code is invalid, or this site URL is not activated on that license: this site’s address isn’t activated on your license. This often happens after moving a site to a new domain, or on a staging copy. Register the theme again from this site, then send the report again.
- Too many site reports were sent: wait up to an hour, then try again.
- A connection error, a timeout, or a message that requests are blocked: your host, a firewall, or a security plugin is stopping WordPress from contacting proteusthemes.com. Ask your host to allow outgoing connections to www.proteusthemes.com, or copy the report instead.
- The site report changed after you opened this page: review the current report, then click Send site report again.
Whatever the error, you can always click Copy site report and paste the report into your ticket.
